If you give this meaning to the second part you may omit it altogether and the sentence will mean the same. But if you keep it, then it implies two different ways (OR) 1. When there is only one alive - he wins. 2. When there are 2 alive - the one with less losses (more wins)is the winner. Better change the wording, but not at the end of tournament.
