Professional Basketball (NBA) Rules Question

You're probably correct on this. It would be a dead ball as soon as it touched the ground and probably even a lane violation if an actual pass was made. Now that I think about it, it cannot be a live ball unless it hits the rim anyway so if the ball hits the floor first it is a dead ball and either the player gets to shoot the second free throw or the other team gets the ball out of bounds (depending on the situation).
As for the time expiring, it would not count. As in my first post, once the ball hits the ground it would be a shot and a miss and in this case the time would be expired so wherever the ball goes after this would not matter.
And for the 3-pointer this is trickier. A player has to have both feet behind the line when the shot is begun. But if the player lifts up the offending foot, pauses, and then does a one-footed jump shot I think it might count. The problem for the ref is determining if lifting the foot off the floor is part of the same shooting motion that follows. I would think most refs would regard it as all part of the shooting motion and not give the 3 even if the player consciously attempted this but perhaps the player could do this in such a way that the ref would call it a three.
But now I wonder if the rules require the foot's position to begin behind the line regardless of how much of a time lag there is. The idea being that the player could put the foot down first behind the line and then shoot. Now I'm leaning toward it not counting.
