Thanks Scotty - I read the article and it looks very useful. Of course, it will take me some practice to get to grips with it.

So I tried to work through Robertie's guidelines and apply them to the original position I posted. I have almost finished but am scratching my head about one particular step / comparison of end results vs. GNU's figures.

I guess the hiccups are possibly caused because Robertie says, "The rule works best for races in the neighborhood of 85 to 115 pips", and my race is much shorter.

P.S. I think there is a small typo in the tutorial.

The paragraph about halfway down the page which begins with the word 'First'.

Text reads:

"If he takes, he can rewhip to 8 and reach 13-13 when he wins"

I think this should be changed to

"If he takes, he can rewhip to 8 and reach 11-11 when he wins"
