For the rebuy system you are thinking of you are close. In your 64 player example when it gets down to 1 and 1 there is no one to rebuy against so it would be 32 + 16 + 8 + 4 + 2 = 62.

How does it work for an odd number of players? Instead of getting a bye I am guessing the odd person out must wait for a rebuy and actually win into the next round. Under that assumption I am getting 2 fewer rebuys than number of entrants in general.
