Now, any idea who Doc BG is/was?

I was wondering that, too.

The page you found from the PBA newsletter was dated October, 1982. I lived in Chicago on and off, most notably from Jan 1981 to Nov 1982, so I missed some of the excitement.

Celeste Duran founded the Pacific Backgammon Association (at her Pleasant Street apartment in San Francisco) around 1975. By 1982, if not earlier, I believe Ralph Powell and Beth Skillman (or one, and then the other) had taken it over. In case you're in touch, one of them would likely know the identity of the mysterious Doc BG.
