IMO (and that's a big FWIW), the right time to hit is when it gives you a chance to get all your checkers into the homeboard before opp enters. That way you've defused a big chunk of opp's winning potential (i.e. hitting you when you're trying to clear your last couple outfield points). Here we have so much freight to move that Stick will very likely be in way before we are ready to clear our outfield. Thus my vote is for 24/17.

I realize we'd like to cover the 10-point, but that forces us to hit (only reasonable ace) if we play 19/13 with the six. With two on the bar the value of owning the 10-point diminishes considerably.
