When you put it that way, I sort of get where you're coming from much better. But it's just not the case theat the crew wins or loses "as a team." There *is* plenty of in-between, since members of the "team" can have wildly different results. One person wins 2, another loses 8, a third settles independently with the Box for 3 pts in a scary-volatile position where he holds a 16-cube.
I don't really see the sense in adding up the results of everybody's point results, since everybody has their own cube, and what happens to a team-mate has no material impact on what happens to me. I just really do regard the Captain/Crew as a situation where the Crew-mates are betting on the Captain's play. I think that's a more accurate description of what's actually going on.
But again, it's fine with me playing that way when I'm in your town!
