Backgammon vs. TSA

I would estimate I get a board checked by TSA maybe 30-35% of the time. That is always carrying a board. I never check one in luggage.
My funniest anecdotal story involves going through TSA security at O'Hare a few years ago standing in line next to Victor Ashkenazi, leaving from Bill Davis's tournament. He laughed and said he always gets checked very closely because "I look like a terrorist". I commented that I rarely got checked. We each had a carry-on bag and I had a GP board. We were going to grab a sandwich or something once through security so I figured I'd have to wait for Victor.
Sure enough Victor sails through and they detain me forever going through everything -- probably 10-15 minutes. I asked them a couple of times what they saw and were looking for and maybe I could help -- they wouldn't say. Finally, in my Crown Royal bag of dice and cubes they find it -- aha !! Bill Davis had given out these registration gifts that were little tiny pewter animals with an attached polished stone -- mine was an owl. They were satisfied and let me go after it took a few minutes to repack everything.
Victor was laughing and asked what that was all about. I still had the little pewter owl in my hand and showed it to him. He really started laughing then. He dug down in the watch pocket of his jeans and pulled one out also. They had missed the one the 'terrorist' was 'packing'. LMAO. We chuckled about that for quite a while.
