If you're looking for someone to explain such a tiny difference between the plays (even at dmp) then I'm not that person and I doubt that person exists. If you're asking is there perhaps an underlying dmp theme that could have alerted us to this playing being correct at dmp I will default to at dmp you want to get ahead in the race and then race. This is exactly what that play accomplishes compared to all the other plays. Since gammons won or lost are tossed out of the equation it makes sense that that maxim holds water.
