Xavier, I have great respect for you and for Bob. I don't think his answer was BS. I think what he was saying is that while you may not opt for backgames against a strong player, knowing how to win them when you find yourself in one is important. Knowing how to roll a snake forward is a skill, though one that rarely is needed, even for humans, bots have great difficulty with. I, like you, doubt the google NN would be able to learn this skil, but it would be interesting to find out.
