I think the paper they released is very vague to say the least.

The whole thing looks like a nice fresh idea in AI, but for CS, deprive Stockfish of it's endgame database just to defeat it?? And then what about all that huge computing power (about 30 times more) they gave to A0 compared to Stockfish? That was not a fair competition.

There's a suspicion they just trained it to defeat SF. Can it defeat other equally strong bots?

Remains to be seen at the next computer chess championship.
