It has always been my assumption that our bg bots have problems with snakes and huge backgames because of the way they are trained -- playing millions of games from the starting position.

Wouldn't a bot that was trained to play from randomly chosen positions or even from the acey-deucy starting position (15 on the bar for both sides) have a more balanced understanding? Sure, it would take a lot longer to train it, but might it not be worth it?
