Transcribing matches without a scoreboard wouldn't be a problem if XG added the ability to change the length partway through a match. It'd just have to re-analyze. I know I've gotten through most of a match only to realize it was the wrong length and have to do it over.
I agree there's not much point to mass databasing of matches if there's not much demand. But as to your remark "no one to send them to" - Terje's Backgammon Studio is just the thing for that! It seems to be becoming the definitive backgammon repository. And even if very few people actually play through matches in the database, quizzes on the site select from the matches in the database, so they'd still get exposure.
