Why would you suspect your grasp of English isn't up to snuff?

Is English not your first language? If not, well done on the correct usage of "up to snuff"!

And you're questioning your grasp of English and not the guy who texted you and randomly capitalized the word "Pro"?

In any case, the correct (English) phrase is "left to answer a higher calling", and, while it generally refers to something religious, it has been co-opted by the heathens to mean leaving to make more money. Not kidding.
