I should know better than to argue with an English teacher about language usage, but I'll try anyway: I think the author's use of "literally" is fine in this headline. It's meant as a deliberate overstatement, designed for emphasis, to get the would-be reader's attention. It's unambiguous, unapologetic hyperbole. It's not meant to be taken.. well, you know.

Anyway, Albert, I hope you reconsider and read the piece. Everyone should read it, IMO. Thanks to David for posting it here.
