Yes. It could have a major affect on backgammon.

1. If more backgammon players can satisfy their gambling urges elsewhere, they might play less backgammon.

2. Maybe next time Carter plays Lars I could get a bet down with my local bookie. Wonder what the odds woukd be?

3. Every time the favorite loses a major tournament people will wonder if he put a bet on his opponent.
