How about a compromise of 1.5 minutes per point? You still need the 12 seconds delay to account for dice shaking, cocked dice etc.

I'm originally a chess player, and I think it's accepted that reduced time limits mean reducing the quality of play. Yeh it might suck if someone spends 8 minutes on an obvious move, still there is a clock and he or she can't keep doing that.

Some people like more time to play their best especially if clocks are used. I think reducing to 1 minute might actually scare away players from tournaments, it's a big investment to pay air fare, hotel and entry fee.
