Why wouldn't it be a legal play? Even if tapping indicates that you want to hit...what if you then changed your mind and didn't? The resulting play is still legal! Let's say a player taps a checker...is he now forced to make the hitting play? Because if he actually decides he doesn't want to and doesn't hit, it would be an ILLEGAL PLAY if he doesn't put it on the bar now as we've recently learned.
Also, what if my opponent doesn't tap the checker, but puts it up on the bar, should I have him replay it and put the checker back since he did not make a prior indication that he INTENDS to hit?
