Any thoughts or words on whether the Monte Carlo organizers have contacted some of the European betting operators (e.g., Ladbrokes, betfair, Paddy Power, etc.) to attempt to have them provide action on the tournament?

Heck, if you bill yourself as a "World Championship", there ought to be a respectable way to bet on it.

I think that publicly available betting on any backgammon tournament, especially this one, could be good for the bookies (another source of business, albeit currently small) but definitely good for backgammon, given the resulting instant and effectively no-cost publicity.
