Thanks for the clarification (which is all I sought -- in no way did I mean to correct or influence you).

In chouettes I've played in over my life (primarily on the west coast, and none recently), "We're plus 4" has usually been intended to mean that we're ahead/up by 4, though I never liked saying plus or minus myself. Evidently, different chouettes can produce a different end of the confusion spectrum. :)
