Chouette extras: Consultation and further redoubles

Albert, thanks for you insights. Your rationale for not consulting was extremely convincing.
I value consistency and generality very highly, so my current preference is for an extra rule not limited to chouettes with at least 4 players and not limited to initial doubles.
Once you allow extras against a lone taker of a redouble, you can argue for giving the extra cube at a value of the dropped cube: If the lone taker is right (and nothing special happens like gammons, redoubles, etc), a dropper/extra giver breaks even. He lost against the box, but kind of won against the taker.
When the lone taker redoubles the box (she passes) and the droppers (they take), neither solution feels right: If the box plays on, she plays on without stakes in the game. If one of the former droppers steps in, your rationale for not consulting is violated, because the lone taker did not expect to have to play against a different opponent than the box.
When the lone taker redoubles all, but only one player takes, we have again a situation, in which extras could be given (provided we allow them, consistently, also for dropped redoubles). This could get pretty wild, and the scoresheet will become messy (the main drawback of extra rules).
What I meant with point 8 could be the solution for the problem: The players giving the extras may not be redoubled by the lone taker. They also may not consult. Their cubes are just similar to a side bet. Once the game between box and lone taker is finished (no matter how many redoubles fly back and forth), the verdict is out: If the lone taker loses, the droppers break even, otherwise they pay. A passing box is not a problem, but rather settles the dispute. Further extras cannot happen, because only two players are left in the game, the extra givers are just by-standers.
The more I think about it, the more I like it. What do you think? Do I overlook some weird consequence this might have?
Best regards
Axel
