Ruling request

This is the bulk of a post of mine 2.5 years ago on this subject:
'Premature rolls should NOT automatically stand. It is possible that the player whose turn it is is deep in thought, perhaps even with their eyes closed or looking away. Perhaps they were briefly distracted when the opponent prematurely rolled (splilled drink, someone making a joke etc). In all these cases they were not able to concentrate on the validity of the premature roll. Did the player shake the dice, and properly? Were they released high enough from the board? Did the cup touch the board? Did the players hand touch the dice as, or after they left the cup? Did the dice roll freely, or did one or both stop dead? In fact, did the opponent even simply place the dice down on the board?!
For all these reasons, and more, I believe that it should be up to the opponent whether a premature roll stands.'
