Unfortunately, all steps (except unit adjustments) in CCC can produce significant input to the count. Modifying CCC to accommodate your requirement would make it UCC :)

In that regard (determining if I am way behind in the race) UCC is more suitable.

From Simborg&Urquhart article:

"(By the way, it can be shown that counting only crossovers can result errors of ±10 pips (1 standard deviation = 9.1). By adding this simple [half crossover] step, the easiest of the 3 steps, you cut the standard deviation to 4.5 pips. That is a pretty big bang for the buck.)"

Please be careful, though. This roughly means that the result can be more than 9 pips off after UCC Step 1 in large number of cases.
