"Chess960" (which I suppose refers to one opening position chosen at random among 960) is basically Fischerandom, which is a refinement of Shuffle Chess, both of which I discussed in the previous post.
In a sample of 200,000 games among Chess engines, the draw percentage in Chess960 is 21%. This is a significant reduction from the 29% draw percentage of engine-vs-engine in standard Chess. Details.
I would conjecture the draw reduction for top-level human vs human to be even greater, not only because it starts at a much higher percentage (currently at 57% among 2600-rated players) but because of (the related reason of) the heavy reliance on opening preparation/memorization, which goes out the window with Chess 960. All of a sudden, blunders would appear in the openings again, increasing variance.
