In the original, I would keep the checker going in the back. 17/16.

Variant 1 - Personally not sure that this play differs from the original. There is the increased gammon equity to think about with a direct 2 when the opponent fans, but 4/3 duplicates your own 2s anyway. So I don't think that would overide the reasons listed for 17/16 the original position.

Variant 2 - Now I think 4/3 has to be better here.
