Does the ace matter much?

I'm going to dismiss 8/7 as too loose even though it brings another builder in range of the ace point.
That leaves 17/16 or 4/3. 4/3 means a roll of 53 is duped to hit or make the ace and twelves play poorly. OTOH, 4/3 gives 7 shakes to cover the ace while 17/16 only gives four. That said, since two of the six shakes are probably better played to hit, it's really 5 vs. 4.
Overall, 17/16 gives six shakes to hit and four shakes to make the ace, for a total of ten. 4/3 also gives six shakes to hit, but only five to make the ace once you remove the duped 53, for a total of 11.
Does the additional good roll outweigh the three poor rolls? Not sure, but I don't think 12s play that badly so I'll play 4/3.
23/17* 4/3
