In Stick's original position (not shown), 17/16 is the best ace by far. In Variant 1 above, Blue owns his 11pt instead of his 8pt, and 4/3 is the better ace.

In Variant 2 below, Blue is back to owning the 8pt (as in the original), but his 6pt is stripped and he has six checkers stacked on his 4pt. That unstacking with 4/3 is a blunder would seem to defy the natural order.
