Don't get out the pitchforks yet.

I was also surprised to learn that the Viking Classic had already claimed that weekend. I was told that there was in fact a conversation between the organizers of the tournaments that were already scheduled close to that weekend, and that there was some agreement that the Viking Classic would take it.

Just because nothing was made public about it doesn't mean there wasn't a discussion or even a thoughtful decision made.

As for other organizers getting a shot... It's hard to imagine that organizers that currently have a weekend that is not near labor day would want to do the work to run two tournaments in a single year... it takes some time and effort to get the contracts for the hotel and make the brochure. It's more likely that an organizer in the Jan-June time frame would have to take it over next year anyways.
