Ruling questions from Cyprus

On the second topic, this happened to me. It was in the consolation semifinal of a major tournament in Paris 2007 or 2008. I was playing Carlos Melzi, and the match had boiled down to 3-away, 3-away. We were both very short of time. Melzi doubled me. It was a really strong double, and I stood up to sort of get a different perspective on the cube. Melzi immediately started protesting, basically shouting at me. "You cannot do that. You must sit down." I was completely taken aback, and started arguing with him while my clock was running. But he would not relent. It was only then that I came to my senses and stopped my clock and called the tournament director (I think it was Chiva). He came over and told Melzi that I was within my rights, as long as it was on my time, to stand up. No harm done, except that I had lost a precious minute or so on my clock and my blood pressure had gone through the roof. The match did not last very long after that, but I was a bit tilted and didn't play it very well. I lost. Melzi told me after the match that I had "upset him" by standing up.
