100% agree, as I pretty much do with the rest of your well thought out post. In my opponents time, I do not want my hands even over the edge of the board, let alone reaching for dice. I think it is very bad etiquette, and should really be something that the Rules address, ie forbid, and have potential sanctions for. Several players, upon reaching early for the dice, have physically blocked my hand moving from the pieces to the clock. There should be a penalty for that, like losing your delay time for the next turn, though if there was I reckon there'd be resistance and unpleasantness to accepting the sanction. This, even though entering a tournament means that you agree to abide by the Rules, whether or not you like all of them.

The main reason why I feel reaching early for the dice is wrong is that it pressurizes your opponent into actually pressing their clock, and formally ending their turn. But, in that last second or so before they actually do so, it might flash through their mind that they have overlooked something, a much better play. I remember one example where I did just this, and the dice were in my opponents hands and well away from the board before I had actually ended my turn. I paused the clock, had the dice put back, started my clock again, and made a much better and obvious play that I had managed to overlook.

A secondary reason is that it means the opponent effectively gets a longer delay setting. Whilst you respectfully wait for him to press his clock before your hands encroach on the board, he saves time reaching early. No matter that it may be a bear off; there are still times when he may have to think and take longer than the delay setting (especially if you can't reset your delay after cocked dice).
