Those who felt that Carlsen's 91-point rating advantage over Caruana in rapid chess at the time of the world championship was a highly accurate measure of their relative playing strengths might want to note that that gap has dropped to 56 points in FIDE's latest official ratings list, a scant three months later. Still a big gap, of course, but 56 points is a lot smaller than 91 points according to the standard formulas for estimating winning chances from Elo ratings.
