If everything is as I understand it though rapid chess is defined as anywhere between 10-60 minutes, sometimes with, sometimes without a delay. The playoffs for the WC were 25 mins + 10 sec increment I believe. Magnus is the blitz world champion and highest ranked player (148 points better than Caruana). In other words, the shorter the time controls the better it is for Magnus. Is 25+10 closer to their rapid ratings or blitz ratings or somewhere inbetween? I don't know because I'd need to research a lot more data and I'm not willing to do that. I'm guessing somewhere inbetween though. I also don't know why their ratings have changed since then. Who played? Who won or lost and against whom? Etc...
I also don't know that anyone said "Those who felt that Carlsen's 91-point rating advantage over Caruana in rapid chess at the time of the world championship was a highly accurate measure of their relative playing strengths". It's easy to say given the results but I still think Carlsen was dead on to take the draw and crush his soul in rapid.
