While what Tim said is true, all gambling winnings in the US are taxable income no matter who wins them, nothing is ever going to come to anyone who doesn't report if they won some money on slots, blackjack, poker, etc... unless that's all that you do for a living then they may pay a bit of attention. Also with most people they can offset their *winnings by their losses. In other words, it doesn't matter if you hit a $1500 slot jackpot if it cost you $3k to do it.

The default in the US is we tax everything multiple times over if possible. (but we're still too broke for universal health care)
