Comment of the week is this honest one from Stick:

Of course OtB I make the same play in all three which is #bagai. I'm sure the gammon or backgammon value may swing one play or another but again, OtB no way I know the difference.

The three positions are diagrammed and discussed in this 2018 post, though in a different order: Position 2 first, then Position 1, then Position 3.

Position 2 = "Original"
Position 1 = "Variant 1"
Position 3 = "Variant 2"

If that seems confusing, just ignore the altered order and read the old post; you'll still get the benefit of the discussion.

Surprisingly, the best play is different in all three of these very similar situations, but that is not the main takeaway.
