RIP Bill Finneran

I have played Bill Finneran over the board, many times. What a super nice guy he was, always upbeat, literally never complained about the dice or anything else.

Bill won the 2022 Mid Atlantic Backgammon Club Player of the Year, which qualified him for the USBGF Local Club Tournament of Champions. Bill decided he couldn't participate, and the spot fell to me. I gave Bill every opportunity to reclaim his spot, and he said he just didn't have the energy to play. That's when I knew he wasn't doing great.

Bill was really into golf -- anytime I saw him at a backgammon tournament, if he was waiting for a match, he would be streaming whatever golf tournament was going on. I know virtually nothing about golf, but it was cool to see Bill light up when anybody engaged him about golf.

The backgammon world has lost a quiet gentleman who will be missed.

RIP to my backgammon friend Bill Finneran.
