IMnshO, When the box and the captain want to settle, any discussion betwwen these two should involve the question if the box is keeping its box or not regardless of who is paying whom. Fow example, the box can say : "I take one point and I am keeping the box". Or the box can offer: "I give you two points but I am keeping the box". At the end, they may agree on a wash but the current captain will be the new box after the game or whatever. Only the current box and the current captain are eligible to become the next box and only these two are settling the terms.

IMnshO, never ever play "last man standing", since it opens up the door for all sorts of hustling possibilities.
