... and there is no clear solution.

Cheaters have always been, and will always be. And across time Cheaters adapt and adjust. When BCI comes, no doubt, Cheaters will use this to their unfair advantage in certain Backgammon events. Efforts will be made to catch them - several cited above. As has already been with other competitions, it will be a game of cat and mouse.

There has been, and will always be, only one solution. Remove the incentive.

There will be those for whom removing the incentive will be unsatisfactory. They will reject the only solution and play the cat and mouse game. Others will embrace the only clear solution.

No, the most ancient of games will not need to change.
