David: I practiced this position as a PFH problem last night with the breaking the midpoint move and it helped a great deal. I got the original move right, but found it difficult to see how keeping the anchor results in wins. (I knew what was right, but didn't understand why.) I can see it much better after the PFH practice. And, I understand subsequent play better as well.

You know what, this is exactly my problem with not just this position, but this class of position. I dont see enough wins from keeping the anchor! The small race lead should be worth more wins than it gets! Also, if you maintain the anchor, then you basically allow your opponent the time to build a better board, so that when you do run, you are more likely to be heavily punished.

I do plan on doing a positional change around (likely with race), keeping the same class of position, but changing the numbers, to find out what kind of lead is enough to make it a run.
