Why stop recording??

I tend to agree, though it might have been very difficult. Apparently, the recorder was inputting to Snowie as they went, that is what was done the last two years and, from the photos, appears to the case this year. At times not being able to read the dice and with "a series of illegal moves" I can see where you could get hopelessly behind and confused. I record from video all the time but at least I can pause, or playback. If you get behind and can't stop the action, it is hopeless. They could have then tried to finish recording manually for later entry but this too could be a problem with seeing the dice and illegal moves.

Unfortunate all the way around.
