all the results from Cannes as they happen on www.worldbackgammonratings.com - in a 155 draw (the second largest field in the world this year) Gus Hansen got a bye and survived the first two rounds and will resume in the 32 today. He defeated Peter Bennet in R1 and got into trouble in R2 against Ionescu but recovered with a perfectly timed back-game winning a G on a 4 cube from 9-7 down - how he got the cube out of ionescu in the first place, is anyone's guess.

Some Brits survive too, Raj Jansari and Mike Heard looking good.

In the WSOB Race, many of the contenders fell in R1 but Mochi and Falafel live on. However if the R1 fallers can accumulate points in the cons and lc, they have a chance - these include the pro poker player Claus Cato and Nordic finalist Hans Christian Mathiesen.
