If my BoE calcs are correct, White (surprisingly) saves the gammon about 14% of the time no matter which of the two obvious candidates Blue chooses. If that's the case then taking two off with 2/1*/0(2) gets Blue off 17/36 next turn compared to 5/36 if he makes the conservative 3/1*(2). The extra 3/36 White fans for the latter shouldn't make up for the quicker bearoff.
