Shouldn't we at least consider 13/5? (Oh, but Stick would never mislead us with his subject line....) Let's look at all three:

13/5 -- starts a very desirable point, but Blue does lead the pipcount and White isn't threatening to escape. Those 14 return shots this candidate offers up change both of those.

3(2) -- upgrades Blue's block by adding a homeboard point, leaving 4 indirect shots.

13/8, 13/10 -- *prepares* to make the 5-pt, leaving 2 shots.

The difference between shots is a bit less because of the duplication of entering and hitting numbers for Blue when White is lucky enough to hit. There is also some duplication of aces to make the 5-pt (after either play) but also (un)duplication of fives. I.e. The back checker doesn't play 5's (other than 25) and 5's are quite playable after 3(2) this turn. If two down is played this turn, 51 and 53 are great (55 is pretty good after either play) but 54 and 56 not so much.
