Let's look at some things that might work out for Blue:

1) Block White's back checkers. Well, that ship has just about left the port with this roll. If you could call your opponent's next roll then keeping the 7-pt to create a root number (or is it 'route number'?) *might* be worth the ugliness. Probably not.

2) Try to get (just) one more checker sent back to preserve the anchor. That's playing with fire.

3) Make the play least likely to generate a future blot in your homeboard, or at least the fewest blots there for the remainder of the game.

4) Grab that open deuce-pt now! This might be your last chance. (Do I need to elaborate?)

I'll quote Rob Maier: The cute play is usually wrong. Route 3) above follows that advice.
