When will the cube reach the 8-level??

The checker on the 18-pt (whether it moves up or not) is more vulnerable in the short term if left uncovered than a blot on the 20-pt. In addition, 20/18 allows Blue to slot the homeboard with that dilly-ish builder. (OK, stopping on the 16-pt allows that, too, but leaves a few more shots than 18/15.) Lastly the 18-pt anchor tends to get a direct shot earlier than the 20-pt anchor, giving opp less time to roll clearing doubles plus leaving Blue's timing in better shape.
