I think Joe has lived in the LA area for most of his BG career. Although Ray since retirement has been a resident of Las Vegas, when he was a firefighter in Bakersfield, CA he spent decades playing in the LA clubs. Needless to say these guys are quite familiar with each other. I add that I don't think they are bosom buddies....

I did watch the Russell-Storer final of the ABT Main from the auxiliary room (streaming commentary was by Joe Urso who was present and Neil Kazaross back home in Illinois). There was a 'tape delay' of 2 to 3 minutes (yes, I timed it). The match you mention followed but by then I wanted to watch my buddies play side events so I didn't see the action you refer to.

As a sidelight, for the six top positions of the three toughest events (Open, Masters, Super J), I'm pretty sure five of those prizes were taken by members of the USBGF Hall of Fame. Saturday night director Ben Friesen hosted a 4 hour open bar for all tournament participants. I heard that Geritol was to top 'seller'.
