A refpos (from Kit's BG Reference Positions, vol. 1) has White on the bar after Blue's 55, but besides the blot on her 11-pt it also has a 4th checker on the 8-pt (with only three on the midpt). This is shown to be a small ND. How does the above position vary and more importantly, how do the changes affect the balance of power.

A) Blue owns his 5-pt, not his 3-pt, and B) Blue has an extra checker in the zone (a second spare on the 6-pt instead of five checkers on the midpt). (The 8 pipcount improvement has got to be worth something as well, plus White's 4th checker on the 8-pt in the refpos is better there, too.) Not only do these make the double clear but throw the Take into question.

If Blue had his back checkers split or the 6-pt spares spread out (i.e. one on the 5-pt) I would feel pretty confident of the pass. Here those *shortcomings* might be enough to make this a Take. Note that only Blue's {21,32,52) neither hit nor make a homeboard point, and all of those are constructive. Looks close but I'm passing.
