It seems to me you timed your doubles about right. I've been guilty of waiting until I though my opp was on his point-of-last-take, only to then find him passing. That can be quite a bit of lost (gifted) equity.

The last position might be worth plugging into the Fish tables (for those unfamiliar, Jacobs and Trice wrote a book titled Can a Fish Taste Twice as Good? which deals with skill disparity).

There is also a psychological pitfall of underestimating an opponent and then finding that costing you, still with match to play. You need to make sure you're ready for that. And you always have dice to overcome....
