OK, thanks for the correction. I now recall Petko wanting to put a checker on his 8-pt to aim at (or shadow) his 2-pt. With a choice of two checkers higher in his outfield he moved the wrong one on the 8-pt. I'm thinking that is the irregularity (later corrected) that you are referring to.

I saw quite a few illegal moves over the week which occurred because a player tried a candidate and when changing the play to another candidate, messed up the proper positioning. I'm pretty sure the rules say that if you move checkers to candidate positions and then decide to change the play, all those checkers should go back to their original location before trying another candidate (even if it's now the final choice). Not following this rule sometimes leads to these illegal moves. It happened in Petko's quarterfinal match at least once, by his opponent who was trying to break a land speed record when moving checkers! Not all that I saw this week were corrected, unfortunately.
