Normally a race deficit is a timing asset, but with deep checkers such as White owning the 18-pt, it's not so obvious. Short of doublets I don't expect her to leave anytime soon. Thus Blue has plenty of time to build his board.

It seems the race is close enough not to mess up the HB for bearoff purposes. Thus 8/6 seems natural. For the ace, although I don't like taking checkers off the 4-pt, 4/3 looks better to me than other options.
