This sure looks familiar, and I guess it's a common theme -- 21-pt or 18-pt? In my recollection, most of the time the 21-pt is better, but 'most' isn't 'always' and one component of backgammon separating the GM's from the rest is knowing the exceptions.

So if I keep the 21-pt, what are my last two 3's (here assuming 6/3 is my second 3 after entering)? Apparently 13/7 is the finish. And how does that position look? Stripped midpoint but an expendable (i.e. movable) checker on the 22-pt, if Blue can get it moving soon.

One thing going on here (and pretty much common in other 21- vs. 18- situations) is that the 18-pt contains 6 more pips of timing. Another thing is the 18-pt is staring down a difficult point for White to clear. Both of those push me towards:

25/22, 6/3, 21/18(2).
